Cllr Bowers has lived in Anston for most of his life and has played cricket for the village. A former football referee he is currently a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter for the South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service and teaches crews basic BSL. He has carried out voluntary work with the homeless for many years and is a family man with four children.

Cllr Bowers is a member of the Council for the north ward of the parish and is a member of the Land & Property and Staffing Committees of the Council.
